The MMMS Records Remastered

Since it seems I’m the primary provider on the Net for the audio from the two flexi-discs that Marvel Comics produced in the 1960’s, I thought I’d offer them with superior sound compared to what I posted five years ago. Here they are, remastered for the best possible audio fidelity.

The Voices of Marvel

Scream Along With Marvel

Technical notes:

  • Technics turntable, Shure cartridge, AGI pre-amp, AKG headphones.
  • Captured using Audacity from pre-amp line level output.
  • 24-bit resolution, 48 kHz sample rate.
  • Click removal used sparingly. No other noise reduction or equalization.
  • A dimple in the flexi-disc causes a recurring thump between 3:15 and 3:35.
  • The left channel in each recording was deemed better, forced into 2-channel mono, then exported as lossless WAV files.
  • WAV files converted to MP3 at 256 Kbps CBR.

  1. Every copy of “Voices of Marvel” I hear online has the “thumps” when Don Heck is talking, so I know they all came from my original transfer. I recently bought a never-circulated, never-played copy of “Scream Along With Marvel” that I will capture for posting the very first time a needle hits the 50-year-old Eva-Tone Soundsheet groove. I’ll probably take another crack at recording “Voices” again, and see if I can eliminate the thumps.

  2. Thanks for posting these! I hunted down a nice copy of Scream Along With Marvel recently, but The Voices Of Marvel original discs are becoming very scarce.

  3. The post sure is old — ten years in September! eBay is always the best place to check, rather than scouring dealers tables at conventions. But complete MMMS kits, as originally shipped, are rare and very expensive. Occasionally someone on a Facebook group, like Marvel Comics Fans 1961-1986, will have a tip on something.
