Our trip to Arizona was our first flying on JetBlue. Their claim of extra leg room compared to other airlines is absolutely true. There is no first class or business class section. Only coach, and no full meals, only snacks. Does this approach work? Yes, I think so.
Each seat has its own LCD television, with DirectTV, and some of the flights also have XM Radio. I found various technical problems, including one seat with a dead audio channel and another with TV audio coming through on the radio channel, full volume, with no control over the loudness. But in the seats where everything is working correctly, it’s good stuff.
The free headphones JetBlue provides are worthless. Even if you get a working set, don’t bother. For a measly $1 JetBlue sells a much bigger, better, and more comfortable pair of headphones. These things are stunning for the money, easily besting the sound of the $20 Sony headphones I use for long distance running. They’re sold on the honor system, and some of the headphone boxes we saw at JFK are well out of view, making it easy to get away without paying. But why would anybody except a kid or a jerk even consider doing that?
The high end is rolled off a bit, and the detail is slightly veiled, but the bass is pretty good. Overall, the sound is balanced, smooth and easy on the ears. Are these the best $1 headphones in the world? Undoubtedly!
My GOD! It took me YEARS to get over my fear of flying, let alone NOD OFF during a flight. My husband hates to fly, but I’m much better at it now. Hey! Can’t let this turn into a message board!
Hey Jeanie Beanie, – the best show on an airplane, to me, is the inside of my eyelids! HA! I have sleeping on planes down to a science now. Lots of times I’m drowsing off already as I feel the wheels of the jet lift off the ground. Once on a Southwest flight that touched down in Albuquerque, the flight attendant woke me up to see if I was supposed to get off in that city. I was totally zonked out with a blanket over my head! My poor husband always has to put up with my legs thrown over his lap the whole flight..Bless him!!! It DOES help me with jet lag…
Wow. My last time flying out to AZ (when Mom died), Southwest was charging FIVE dollars for headphones, and they just had the “fall-down” screens every few feet. I was cheap and used my own Sony headphones, which, of course, only gave me sound in one side. It didn’t matter, the movies were lousy both ways. I can’t even remember the one going out; I was too anxious about getting there on time. The second was that stinker with J-Lo (the new mother of boy/girl twins, by the way!) and Richard Gere, dancing!
Good thing you’ll be wanting to fly into and out of Phoenix, for any future visits to Arizona, since you liked your JetBlue experience. I just read an article that JetBlue may drop its non-stop service between Tucson and New York City, unless they get more passengers this year. A lot of coast-to-coast flights in and out of Tucson require connections. United Airlines started up a non-stop flight between Tucson and Dulles Airport outside of Washington, D.C., and a bunch of people in Arizona got excited about that. I don’t know if that flight still exists as a “trial” to see if it becomes popular enough, or not.
