Well, here’s the end of an era. Fiftie’s pin-up model Bettie Page has died at 85. One man who did a lot to re-popularize Bettie for a younger generation, artist Dave Stevens, died earlier this year.

I always liked Van Johnson, but his curly, lush eyelashes always made me think he was, er, well … but of course he wasn’t. He seemed to pop up alongside June Allyson an awful lot.
There’s an Arlo and Janis comic strip where Arlo says if there were a homepage for cable TV his would be Turner Classic Movies, and I heartily agree. Don’t tell Verizon FiOS TV, but I’d gladly pay another $10-$12/month for TCM.
Van Johnson is one of those Golden Age of Hollywood people who I assumed was already deceased. I remember him best, perhaps, from “The Caine Mutiny.”
Hi Doug! I just read last night about Bettie Page passing after her recent heart attack. My sister told me as well that actor Van Johnson died today of natural causes at age 92. I liked watching him on “Hollywood Squares” with Peter Marshall. As a kid I thought Van was a comedian, then after becoming a TCM fanatic I saw alot of his films. And Edna Parker, the 115-year-old lady in Indiana, considered to be the world’s oldest living person recently passed. I believe I read a lady in Portugal is now considered to have that title.
Bettie was never in outright porn, that I know of. but she made short films for “private exhibition” with a light bondage-fetish bent. I’m not aware of her being in any mainstream movies.
Page starred in a few mainstream movies too, didn’t she?
