Steranko Country

Today through May 29, Jim Steranko has an exhibit of his paintings at the Butler Institute of American Art, in Youngstown, Ohio.

I must take strong exception to the curator’s statement that Stan Lee considered Steranko to be “his best,” and “his right-hand man, in a way.” That distinction, without question, belonged to Jack Kirby.

Correction: Wendy Swick is not the curator, she is the Public Relations Coordinator at the museum.

  1. You’re assuming Stan said that. I don’t know who made that claim, but Steranko is also good at self-promotion. In the more standard sense of someone being a “right hand man,” I would say it was Roy Thomas.

  2. you dont think that mr lieber would make an untrue statement so as to place himselfnext to someone who was a phenomenal talent, and was garnering mainstream attention, something stan really lusted after. i do.
