On Ringo’s new album, “Y Not,” Paul backs him up on a song his former bandmate co-wrote with Van Dyke Parks, who shares a distinction with Timmy & Lassie’s Jon Provost — as a child actor he was once in a movie with Grace Kelly.

Ringo’s starr still shines
Good old Ringo, the eldest Beatle, born three months before John, turns 70 this year. Back in ’08 Eric and I saw Ringo in Boston, and now he’s out plugging his new record — that I downloaded from Amazon last night, after seeing him on the Daily Show.

Daily Shows Ringo
Hey, Ringo was on “The Daily Show” tonight!
A Freed man
BBC Radio 2 has a Listen Again (podcast) documentary about pioneering Rock and Roll DJ Alan Freed. I was going to listen to just a few minutes and finish it later, but instead sat through the whole show in one sitting. I think it should be available until next week.

Caught in the Net net
I have a bunch of Google Alerts. One that I deleted was for the Beatles, because thanks to Beatles News there wasn’t a need for it. One of the active alerts is for my not-so-secret shame, K3, and in today’s catch I was expecting something like this…
… but instead I found this.
Dedicated eBook readers have, I feel, a rather limited number of potential customers. The extended battery life with e-paper when the transmitter is turned off is nice, however. I’m not very sanguine about large, backlit LCD touch panels, either, because the battery life will undoubtedly be poor. Which is why I’m intrigued by something that was pointed out to me by tech-savvy tastewar.

Facet-ating
Rather than blogging I’ve been working on my facet joint problem, which I’m told is what’s been wrong with my back. Can’t believe how weak my right leg is from just one month of favoring it. I’ll keep working out and going to PT.
Anyway, ignoring for the moment the catastrophe in Haiti, something that’s bugging me is how there’s so much babbling about Jay Leno crawling back to the 11:30 PM ET slot, and what it means for Conan O’Brien, but almost nobody — Mark Evanier is an exception — has pointed out the significance of Stephen Colbert being on at 11:30. I refuse to believe that cable TV is not yet counted in the ratings equation, and I for one won’t even flip channels during commercials on “The Colbert Report.”
Coming up (I think), will be Milli. No, not Vanilli!
