Debasement

A couple of years ago I started getting water in the basement during heavy rain. The problem has been getting worse, and during yesterday’s storm I rigged up something temporarily that seemed to help.

The house was built fifty years ago, and as best as I can determine there was supposed to be a basement walk-out entrance, but it was never completed. So that will be my next construction project, assuming I can find the right contractor. Someone who can also successfully tackle the water drainage problem.

Patio Progress

Day #3. A new walkway will lead down to a patio.

The materials are the same as were used for the front walkway that was built last year.

See that area next to the steps? That’s where I’ll set up the portable screen for the hoped-for movie nights.

The portable projector’s contrast ratio isn’t the best, so dark scenes can appear a bit washed out, but cartoons look okay even in bright daylight.

Ten Years After

As I did ten years ago, on Monday I will be at the starting line of the Boston Marathon as a spectator. It’s an event I used to participate in, until one of my ankles decided that 10k was the longest distance it felt like running.

These are the posts I put online April 15, 2013, shortly after hearing about the explosions at the finish line.
