Can you believe that not only do I not own a copy of the Marx Brothers’ Monkey Business, I’ve never even seen it all the way through in a single sitting? Or even a single standing! I’m half an hour into it right now on Netflix Now and — d’oh! — it’s bedtime. Maybe I’ll have to watch it in a single sleeping.
In Sunday’s Boston Globe, James Sullivan commemorates the 40th anniversary of the photo shoot that resulted in the cover to the Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Heart’s Club Band, by identifying all of the faces in the background. The online version is here, but it doesn’t include a key. The key in the print edition of the paper is small and, in my copy, off-register and nearly illegible.

I think the September 2008 deadline the Democrats have specified in the House appropriations bill for the funding of the occupation of Iraq is more than generous.
To all of the Republicans in denial of reality who think the pitifully inept George Bush will be hampered by a timetable for troop withdrawl, the whole point to winning is that the ENEMY CAN’T GET BACK UP. The enemy must be DOWN, so that NOTHING the enemy tries to do is effective — whether or not they know the date we’ll be leaving!
If we can’t impose order on Iraq in another 18 months, then it can’t be done. If all is peaceful by then, we won’t need a military presence there, will we? Put up or shut up, Republicans. If George Bush and Dick Cheney were men, and not the chicken hawks they are, they’d accept this deadline as a challenge. “Bring ’em on”.
I wonder how many more American soldiers and civilian contractors will die or be maimed between now and September 2008?
My friend Bismo has pointed out a Web site to me, Falsiness.org, that blows the lid off of the lies of Stephen Colbert’s truthiness. Damn! And I thought I could trust that bastard.

Who else but fanboy Stephen Colbert would open a show with a comic book reference? There was no pass-off segment from The Daily Show tonight, but I often think of that and Colbert’s opening as being the best parts of the show.
